Pentagon strikes deals with top AI firms for classified work, but not Anthropic

technology defense & military artificial intelligence

The Pentagon has reached agreements with seven AI companies to deploy advanced capabilities on the Department of Defense's secure classified networks. These pacts are intended to broaden the range of AI providers working across the military and advance military capabilities.

The agreements include leading firms such as Microsoft, Amazon, Google, OpenAI, SpaceX, and Nvidia. These contracts provide the Defense Department with more AI options for its classified operations.

These moves come amid a dispute over safeguards. Anthropic was not listed in the agreements and remains on the sidelines after the Defense Department declared the company a supply-chain risk following a dispute over the use of its AI tools.
